Artist's Statement
When I was studying art in University, my work was very one dimensional and graphic in presentation. Clearly drawing from my education in Graphic Design! When I went back to art, almost 30 years later, I found that I had discovered that the world to me was a very tactile, sensory, overload kind of place. And now, I try to capture some of that tactile depth in my work through the use of texture and dimension.
While I believe that one never abandons traditional art, I struggle to express what I feel and see, behind my eyes, through texture. Art to me is not a brush touch on a flat screen of canvas, but a means to force the viewer to participate through dimension and texture.
The work is a journey, a process and an experience. How do you create something that causes another soul to stop, notice and respond? And what is it that connects us and allows us for even a fleeting moment to see each other? That’s what I am attempting to achieve. top
